The Questions Behind the Set
How we approach conversations with rock musicians about the decisions that shape a song.

Ask About a Decision
Ask a musician where a song changed direction. It might have happened when the drummer dropped a fill or when a lyric that sounded fine in rehearsal landed differently in front of a crowd. A specific moment gives both the artist and the reader somewhere to go.
Leave Room for the Answer
Some of the best follow-up questions are short. What did that sound like? Who heard it first? Give the artist time to remember. The best detail may be the one they nearly forgot.
